The Scientific Committee is a 9-member advisory body of the Foundation, which consists of personalities from the field of science and a representative of the Bodossaki Foundation.
The Scientific Committee has a central role in managing the Bodossaki Distinguished Young Scientist Awards. It makes recommendations to the Board regarding the scientific sectors in which Prizes should be awarded and submits proposals for the selection and announcement of nominees.
The current composition of the Foundation’s Scientific Committee is as follows:
- Iannis Aifantis, Chair and Professor of the Department of Pathology at the School of Medicine of New York University (NYU)
- Theodora Varvarigou, Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)
- Nikos Vettas, Professor at the Department of Economics of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) and Director General at the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE)
- Georgios Kollias, Professor of Experimental Physiology at the Medical School of the University of Athens and Director of the Immunology Division at the “Alexander Fleming” Biomedical Sciences Research Center, Member of the Academy of Athens, Member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), laureate of the Bodossaki Distinguished Young Scientist Awards in 1993, Member of the Board of Trustees of Bodossaki Foundation
- Nancy Makri, Professor of Chemistry and Physics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science, laureate of the Bodossaki Distinguished Young Scientist Awards in 1999
- Costas Meghir, Professor at the Department of Economics of Yale University, Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Econometric Society, the British Academy and the Society for Labor Economics, laureate of the Bodossaki Distinguished Young Scientist Awards in 1996, and Member of the Board of Trustees of Bodossaki Foundation
- Michalis Triantrafyllou, Henry L. and Grace Doherty Professor of Ocean Science and Engineering at MIT, Visiting Scientist Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (USA), Director of the Center for Ocean Engineering and Director of the Testing Tank Facility and the Propeller Tunnel at MIT, Member of the American Physical Society, the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the International Society of Offshore Mechanics and Polar Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers
- Athanassios Fokas, Emeritus Professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics of Cambridge University, Member of the Academy of Athens and the European Academy of Sciences
Bodossaki Foundation is represented by Athina Dessypri, President of Bodossaki Foundation’s Board of Trustees, who can be substituded by Theodoros Theodorou, Vice President of Bodossaki Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, Member of the Academy of Athens and the National Academy of Engineering.
