The Bodossaki Foundation, as co-funder and coordinator, in consortium with the NGO Support Centre, is announcing two open calls for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Greece and Cyprus to submit project proposals for funding under the ‘BUILD – Building a robust and democratic civic space’ programme which is co-funded by the European Union CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values). The aim of the BUILD project is to protect, promote and raise awareness of EU fundamental rights & values by supporting Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Greece and the Republic of Cyprus.

The 1st open call, entitled ‘Enhancing awareness & understanding of EU rights and values’ aims to promote EU fundamental rights and values as enshrined in the European Treaties and the European Union’s Charter of Fundamental Rights and raise public awareness of those rights and values through further dissemination and promotion.

The available funding of €1.172.222 (€950.000 for Greece and €222.222 for the Republic of Cyprus) is intended to support initiatives with the following goals:

  • Familiarize citizens and CSOs with EU values and improve knowledge on how to support, respect and promote human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and human rights, including the rights of minorities.
  • Strengthen cooperation, networking and synergies between CSOs, stakeholders and participants on issues related to the promotion of EU values and rights.
  • Increase public participation in civic activities designed to raise awareness of EU values and rights.
  • Enhance the ability of CSOs to proactively contribute to democratic, civic dialogue and support their effectiveness.
  • Foster a culture with a European perspective in the civil society sector in Greece and Cyprus.
  • Support the education of CSOs and their exchange with CSOs in other EU Member States, in order to further the aims of the open call.

The 2nd open call, under the title ‘Protecting and Promoting EU rights and values’, aims to protect, promote and advocate for EU rights and values as enshrined in the Treaties and the European Union’s Charter of Fundamental Rights.

The available funding is €1.172.222 (€950.000 for Greece and €222.222 for the Republic of Cyprus) and is intended to fund initiatives with the following goals:

  • Empowerment of vulnerable groups on issues relating to the protection of EU rights and values.
  • Consolidation of the advocacy and watchdog role of CSOs. Supporting CSOs in their efforts to advocate for EU rights and values and act as watchdogs to hold institutions accountable.
  • Increased involvement of CSOs in policy and decision-making processes with local, regional and national governments
  • Support of CSO training and exchanges with CSOs in other EU Member States, aimed at promoting the objectives of the call.
