The project “Youth Action for Democracy: Promoting the Values and Rights of the EU in Northern and Central Greece” is designed to enhance awareness and understanding of the rights and values of the European Union among the youth. The ultimate goal is to encourage youth participation in public discourse and the consistent exercise of their democratic rights. The project will be executed in four municipalities—Thessaloniki, Thermi, Komotini, and Larissa—each hosting active Municipal Youth Councils (MWC).
Target Groups:
Young people aged 18–30 from 4 municipalities in Northern and Central Greece, Youth Advisors and/or Representatives of local Civil Society Organizations, Local authorities from 4 municipalities in Northern Greece, and the general public, with an emphasis on the youth population.
Activities:
- Development of educational material tailored to young people, focused on EU values, civic engagement, and local-level policy design.
- Training seminar for 8 Youth Advisors across 4 municipalities (Thessaloniki, Thermi, Larissa, Komotini), covering EU rights, policy proposals, and the prevention of sexual harassment.
- Three-day experiential training sessions in all four municipalities, engaging 54 young people aged 18–30.
- Formation of local youth groups that met monthly, eventually engaging 69 young
- Coordination of local youth groups in each municipality to identify needs and co-develop youth-led policy proposals.
- Educational visit to Strasbourg by 4 youth representatives and project staff, including presentations at the European Parliament and the European Youth Center (EYC).
- Awareness-raising campaign via social media showcasing youth voices, participation, and EU values. The campaign reached over 8 million users.
- Final dissemination event, where youth presented their policy proposals to institutional stakeholders. The event strengthened civic dialogue and laid groundwork for potential adoption of youth-generated recommendations.
