Athens faces the double challenge of heritage buildings being abandoned, and marginalized creative communities being displacing and deprived of safe, affordable spaces. Our project addresses this crisis by promoting these buildings’ re-use as ‘creative commons’, strengthening the right to the city. The project aims to strengthen participatory democracy and good governance through an institutionally applicable model of commons-based stewardship for public heritage. The project will demonstrate how creative commons can serve as a model for active citizen participation and raise awareness among municipal and public authorities of the potential of the creative commons model.
Target groups:
- Public officials at local and national level
- Urban creative communities
- Municipalities and local authorities
- Private owners of buildings of cultural value or abandoned properties
