EVNOMIA – Observatory for Equal Access to Justice in Cases of Gender-Based Violence

Call: 1st Call: Empowering Civil Society to promote the rule of law, participatory democracy, good governance, and defend civic space and media freedom.
Project Duration:  12 months
Budget: 26,461.10€
Grant size: Small-scale project
Country: Greece
Location: Patras

The project aims to address critical institutional gaps in the delivery of justice, especially in cases of gender-based violence, taking into account cases involving women who are subject to intersectional discrimination (disability, immigration status, ethnic origin). It responds to identified needs, such as the limited use of legal aid, the lack of awareness of the new institution of free legal advice, the lack of awareness about the state compensation procedure for victims of gender-based violence, the absence of systematic, gender-specific risk assessment, and limited institutional accountability, as documented in national and international reports (GREVIO, DG Human Rights, Equality Observatory, etc.). The aim of the project is to establish an ongoing mechanism for monitoring and documenting gender justice, and to strengthen institutional practices in support of substantive equality in legal treatment.

Target groups:

  • Women subjected to gender and/or domestic violence and intersectional discrimination
  • Legal and judicial professionals (judges, prosecutors, lawyers)
  • Decision-makers
