Active Citizens in Aigialeia: Democracy, Transparency, Inclusion & Leadership – E.P.I.D.R.A.S.I

Call: 1st Call: Empowering Civil Society to promote the rule of law, participatory democracy, good governance, and defend civic space and media freedom.
Project Duration: 12 months
Budget: 30,000€
Grant size: Small-scale project
Country: Greece
Location: Achaia

The project addresses the need to strengthen public participation in local democratic life and policy making in rural areas such as Aigialeia. Despite the citizens’ proximity to local government, disengagement, the lack of dialogue, and low trust in institutions remain key challenges. Moreover, vulnerable groups, young people and people without strong social representation do not enjoy equal access to decision-making. The project’s goal is to create sustainable mechanisms for participation, transparency and dialogue between citizens and local bodies. The project aims to foster a culture of trust and collective responsibility at a local level.

Target groups:

  • Young people aged 15-30 and active citizens
  • Representatives of local associations (cultural, social, voluntary)
