In Greece today, 250,000 people live with dementia and 350,000 with Mild Cognitive Impairment; their care places an overwhelming emotional, physical, social and financial strain on their families.
The “A HEALTHY MIND” project will be setting up and piloting Memory Gyms in Piraeus, Megara, Thiva, Livadeia and Paros. Memory Gyms are modern cognitive enhancement structures that leverage technology to prevent cognitive decline and dementia in older people.
Through organized group and individual programmes conducted in person or remotely by health professionals, memory gyms enhance cognitive function by establishing systematic mental exercise as a core pillar of healthy ageing on a par with physical activity.
The project is implemented by Alzheimer Athens in the framework of the Thematic Grants Programme for Healthy Ageing, with the support of the Bodossaki Foundation, the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and the TIMA Charitable Foundation.
