VISIBLE 60+

Call: Preventing and Combatting Domestic and Sexual Violence
Project Duration: 12 months
Budget: €58.943,72
Types of grants: Large-scale project
Country: Greece
Location: Attica, Larissa, Thermi and Ioannina

The project aims to prevent and respond to gender-based violence against older women by strengthening the role of Open Care Centres for Older People (KAPI) as frontline services. It draws on the experiences of women aged 60+ and staff needs to develop specialised training resources and skills in identifying, responding to and promptly referring cases. The intervention recognises that fear, shame, age and gender stereotypes, and limited trust in services can keep violence hidden. As consistent points of contact with the community, KAPI can help identify violence early when staff have appropriate training and clear referral procedures.

Target groups

KAPI staff in municipalities in Attica, Larissa, Thermi and Ioannina, including administrative personnel, social workers, physiotherapists and other professionals in daily contact with women aged 60+. Women aged 60+ will also participate in the needs assessment. Indirect beneficiaries include older women, municipalities, carers, organisations working on gender equality and active ageing, and the wider public.

Core Activities

  • Assess needs through 10 interviews with KAPI professionals and 3 focus groups involving a total of 25 women aged 60+, informing the development of 1 specialised training manual.
  • Exchange good practices with 3 European organisations through 3 online working meetings and 1 open webinar, documenting the learning in a consolidated good practice publication.
  • Train 200 staff from 70 KAPI to recognise gender-based violence, communicate supportively and make timely referrals for women aged 60+.
  • Run a visibility campaign with 3 thematic video discussions and 3 open local events outside Attica, targeting awareness raising among 3,000 people.
  • Create 1 project website and 20 social media posts, targeting a digital reach of at least 3,000 unique users.
  • Produce an information leaflet in 300 printed copies, 4 infographics, 4 newsletters and 4 short videos to inform and engage target groups.
  • Hold 1 closing event in Athens targeting 50 participants, presenting results and discussing future interventions.
