Digitally showcasing the flora in the National Garden

Bodossaki Foundation and the National Bank of Greece are funding an initiative to digitally showcase the natural heritage of the National Garden with a view to raising environmental awareness and enhancing the visitor experience.

The project is being implemented by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens employing cutting-edge digital tools. It includes the installation of 120 signs incorporating QR codes which link to scientific, historical and ethnobotanical information regarding selected plant species within the Garden.

Once the project has been implemented, visitors can simply scan the QR code with their mobile phone to discover information about a plant’s name, origin and life cycle, along with details on their history and uses, all illustrated with photos.

Visitors and friends of the Garden will now have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the flora of the National Garden in its natural setting, gaining a deeper understanding of and appreciation for urban biodiversity in the process.
