\"\"George Kollias’s laboratory has pioneered genetic approaches to understand the function of cytokine signaling in animal models of human diseases and contributed knowledge on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying chronic inflammation. \u0397is team’s groundbreaking preclinical studies on the role of TNF in joint pathology paved the way for the development of anti-TNF therapies for Rheumatoid Arthritis. More recently, his lab elucidated the prominent involvement of fibroblasts in chronic inflammatory diseases, immunity, and cancer. The disease models and genetic tools created in his lab aid research globally in academic and industrial settings.<\/p>\n

George Kollias is a Professor of Physiology (Medical School, UoA), Research Professor at the BSRC “Alexander Fleming<\/a>“, and Member of the\u00a0Academy of Athens<\/a> and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).\u00a0He served as President and Director of the BSRC \u201cAlexander Fleming\u201d (2002-2010 & 2016-2020) and Director of the Department of Physiology, Medical School, UoA<\/a> (2020-2023). He is Founder and President of\u00a0Biomedcode Hellas SA<\/a>. Since 2016, he has founded and directs the International Graduate Program in “Molecular Biomedicine<\/a>“. He has led efforts for the development of research infrastructures at the national and European level. His laboratory secured funding from several prestigious sources including two advanced grants from the European Research Council (ERC<\/a>) in 2014 and 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
