The pinnacle of all of the Foundation's educational programs is the establishment of the "Aristeion Bodossaki", the award for excellence, which was presented for the first time in 2002.
With the "Aristeion Bodossaki", the Foundation's Board of Trustees intends to give international recognition to Greek scientists who have earned global renown in science, technology and medicine; people who can be viewed as role models, as a source for inspiration for others to follow and as a source of national pride.
The "Aristeion Bodossaki" award for excellence is bestowed to scientists who have made significant contributions, furthering the scientific knowledge in their respective fields by means of original and completed academic work of the highest quality. Their achievements have affected or prompted important developments in their fields and have gained international recognition.
Candidates must be Greek citizens or of Greek origin. There is no age limit. The "Aristeion" carries a monetary prize of €150,000 granted every two years.
The "Aristeion" Committee is the main advisory body for the award. It is comprised of twelve members, ten of whom are academics and two are members of the Foundation's Board of Trustees. At least six of the ten Committee members must be university professors or researchers at major research centres abroad.
